Vaughan Williams: Complete Symphonies (Box Set)

There are a number of box sets of the complete Vaughan Williams Symphonies available from Amazon. All are reasonably priced and almost all have very favourable reviews at Amazon. For what it's worth I would choose either of the Adrian Boult recordings (the one with the blue cover and the one with the orange cover) but for a better opinion it is worth reading the reviews at Amazon as they seem to me to be really well informed.

I've had this CD for a couple of years now and I agree with those reviews at Amazon that generally like the interpretations of these traditional songs by contemporary artists but do point out one or two exceptions. Skipping the couple of duff interpretations, however, I think Johnny Depp's project is a pretty entertaining and at times pretty radical reworking of some traditional songs and ballads.

We Want The Light by Christopher Nupen

The DVD of the documentary "We Want The Light" by Christopher Nupen is available from Amazon for £24.99 which means that it is eligible for free delivery if you choose the Super Saver Delivery Option.

Amazon very kindly inform us that the DVD runs for 336 minutes but they don't tell us what this DVD offers after the first hour long documentary. (They really can be a bit lazy when it comes to classical music). What you get is a second film where the music that appears in the documentary is revisited with more footage of the performances. You also get over 3 hours of extended interviews with those who appeared in the documentary (as well as with a couple who did not make the final cut). These interviews explore the different aspect of the documentary in much greater depth.
